Free Events / Learn More
As a nonprofit organization that serves the public interest and utilizes tax funding, foundation grants, and donations from individuals, Southwest Solutions invites everyone to get to know us by attending one of our free events. Each month, we offer a one-hour tour of our programs in southwest Detroit that we call “Be Part of the Solution.” We also hold free "feel-good events” throughout the year to celebrate major community happenings, such as groundbreakings, neighborhood clean-ups, ribbon-cuttings, or launching new programs.

How to attend:

Our Be Part of the Solutions (BPOS) tours are scheduled throughout the year. These tours are a great way to meet our agency leadership, hear from members of the community we serve, and learn why southwest Detroit is the comeback story of our region. If you cannot attend any of our scheduled tours, but would like to meet our president and learn about Southwest Solutions, consider hosting a BPOS event.

The schedule of upcoming events is continually updated on the website. You may also register to be on our email list and receive monthly news and information.

To learn more about our free events or to register to attend, call Bob O'Brien, Vice President for Development, at 313.297.1370 or email him.

   What to expect

Our commitment is to make our free events informative, convenient, safe and respectful of your time. We provide good directions, ample parking, and volunteers that are always delighted to greet new people. When you register for an event, we will ask your permission to add you to our email list.

The events often inspire our attendees. Here are some of the comments we have received:

Larysa Blysniuk: "I think that the event was very well put together. I had a much clearer understanding on how the work of Southwest impacts the neighborhood and its clients. The setting [at the Whitdel] was wonderful."

Charles Zink: "I didn't know much about the organization before and was impressed with the depth of services. The event itself was invigorating and well done."

Cedric Richner: "As a student, architect, and facilitator of all kinds of donor activities and events, I would give the session last evening high marks. It was well conceived, conveyed the right messages, it was interesting, and inspiring."

Jim Townsend: “I don’t know if you could improve on what you did to describe your organization and your impact. John Van Camp exudes passion and the clients were absolutely terrific!”

Melanie Ellis: “Your use of personal stories was fabulous; it was great to have people from each program. The mother whom you helped to reunite with her five children did a fabulous job speaking from the heart.”
